Planting memories, growing community
Our Plant a Tree program offers an opportunity for anyone wishing to make a lasting tribute that will also enhance the beauty and experience of Grayslake parks. Since the program’s introduction in 2005, we have planted more than 100 trees in local parks through generous community donors. As the trees flourish, they provide both living remembrances and ecological benefits for generations to come.
You may be inspired to donate a tree for any number of reasons, including:
Honoring a beloved individual or pet
Recognizing a longtime community steward
Commemorating the birth of a child or a milestone birthday
Celebrating a marriage, anniversary, or graduation
Memorializing a favorite gathering place
Each tree is professionally installed by Grayslake Community Park District staff and includes a 3-year guarantee. Though you may purchase trees at any time, planting will occur only in the spring and fall.
With each tree donation, you have the option to purchase and personalize a bronze plaque to install near the base of your tree. The tree donation is 100% tax deductible, but the purchase of the optional bronze plaque is non-tax deductible.
Note: Plaques have a 4- to 6-week lead time, and potentially longer during peak season. Please submit your orders as early as possible.
Adopt a Tree in Alleghany Park
Alleghany Park is a 95-acre complex offering a variety of athletic fields, paths, and playgrounds that support a range of interests. It also has a long parkway of well-established Autumn Blaze Maple trees, a limited number of which are available for adoption for $350 per tree. These trees can be purchased year round and designated with a personalized bronze plaque at its base for an additional $350.
This program does not offer a guarantee.
We direct all proceeds from our Plant a Tree and Adopt a Tree programs to Grayslake Community Park District educational, recreational, and civic initiatives.
